Territorial, 2025

Territorial / colour, place making and playing with light. 2025

Commissioned by the passionate team steering Pascoe Vale Girls College, I loved designing and building the concept for this mural around the beautiful, well cared for and deliberately planted gardens within the college. Based around an old lake and river bed where giant red gums still stand, native species have been planted and nurtured and it was amazing being able to draw direct inspiration from the immediate surrounds.

This wall was exposed during a demolition project and I was honoured to be asked to transform it, making colour the hero of this communal gathering space. The two red wattle birds are the real heroes, too. I've always wanted to paint them and here felt fitting - they can be territorial, and the pride that this school has for its diverse and inclusive community is something to be incredibly proud of. I want everyone to feel ownership and pride of their territory, a space where they can belong.
